Mob Brutally Attacks RAF Jawan In Connaught Place, Police Vehicles Vandalised During Delhi Protest

New Delhi: After the violence that broke out in Delhi during the Parliament march, Delhi Police have rapidly increased the scope of investigation. Till now, a total of 10 FIRs have been registered in different police stations and the police are also investigating this entire incident from the perspective of a well-planned conspiracy. Police say that allegations of disturbing law and order, damaging government property, attacking policemen and violating prohibitory orders during the demonstration are being investigated separately. Investigative agencies are trying to identify the miscreants by analysing more than 250 video footages, CCTV recordings, drone footage and police body camera recordings.

What came to light in the attack on RAF soldier?

The most serious incident that has come to light in the investigation is the attack on an RAF soldier. According to the police, a mob surrounded an RAF jawan and beat him up in Connaught Place on Tuesday evening. Other soldiers present there intervened and rescued him safely. On the complaint of the injured soldier, the police have registered a case under several serious sections including murderous attack. Police have also received a video of this incident which will be used as evidence.

Which incidents are being investigated during the violence?

Police say that during the protest, barricades were broken at many places, attempts were made to break the security cordon and police vehicles were vandalised. It is alleged that the protesters pelted stones due to which many policemen were injured. The police have repeatedly tried to explain and inform about the implementation of the prohibitory order, yet some people did not agree. On the basis of these incidents, cases have been registered under different sections.

In which police stations have FIRs been registered?

According to the police, 10 FIRs have been registered so far in various police stations of New Delhi district. These include Sansad Marg police station, Connaught Place police station, Mandir Marg police station, Barakhamba Road police station and Dutta Path police station. The cases are being processed under the Indian Justice Code (BNS), Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and other relevant legal provisions. Apart from this, a separate FIR has also been registered in the case of flying drone without permission.

Is the investigation being done from the conspiracy angle also?

The investigating agencies are now also trying to find out whether the violence broke out suddenly or there was some pre-planning behind it. Police are analysing digital evidence, mobile phone recordings, social media activities and conversations on messaging platforms. The investigation is also looking into whether the people involved in the protest were mobilised in any organised manner or not.

What is the police looking for from more than 250 video footage?

Multiple teams of Delhi Police are examining more than 250 video footage frame-by-frame. These include recordings of CCTV cameras, mobile videos, drone footage and scenes from police body cameras. Officials say that through these videos, people involved in stone pelting, vandalism and attacks on police are being identified. Legal action will be taken against those whose involvement is revealed. It is also being investigated whether the miscreants have any previous criminal record.

What will be the next step of the police?

Delhi Police say that the investigation is still in the initial stage and based on video analysis, more people can be identified in the coming days. There is also no ruling out filing of fresh FIRs or adding new sections to existing cases if the investigation finds evidence of any organised conspiracy or additional criminal role. Officials have clarified that no person taking law into their own hands will be spared and action will be taken on the basis of evidence in all cases.
